A little about me
Hi, I'm Steph! I'm an acrylic artist based out of Berlin, Germany. These dreamy landscapes come from my memories of growing up in Arizona.
I see lots of colors in the desert. At times the sun's glow can seem fluorescent. When I put this on a canvas, it’s more like I paint a feeling, rather than the image itself.
My painting style lingers between expressionistic and surreal, creating visceral, dreamlike sceneries. The art I create is filtered through everything that’s made me who I am, and I want to bring the viewers on a visual journey through these layers of depth.
When I was a child I was most inspired by my mother, a pencil and watercolor artist. She was very into drawing Pre-Raphaelite subjects from painting masters, like John William Waterhouse, and fairies and goblins inspired by Brian Froud.
My parents bought me a whole collection of tools just like the ones my mom used, a Strathmore sketchbook that was nearly the size of me, blending tools, a gum eraser, and good pencils. I got in lots of practice and was often considered the best in my class all through school.
As an adult, I've had the opportunity to sell many murals, and paintings, and I’ve shown art in galleries in Seattle, Washington. I’ve also done live art at clubs and fundraisers. Those were fun!
I've had to start over many times since then, and lost nearly all of my old work.
In 2018 I moved to Berlin with my husband and our 2 cats. I was working as a bartender when the pandemic hit, but I also had just given birth to my son. So I decided to change careers altogether and finally focus on what was in my heart, these paintings of vast skies and desert landscapes.
I opened my online shop in the summer of 2021 and now my work is so fulfilling. I’ve sold hundreds of art pieces, and so far, my work has been shown at Brassworks Gallery in Portland, Oregon.
My artistic goals include reaching beyond my comfort zone to create art that makes me feel good while challenging my limits.
These paintings come from dreams, and memories of living in Arizona, wishing for rain while watching thunderheads form over the mountains.
This is why my desert landscapes are so whimsical. My goal is to create a muse, something to look at every day to make you say “Life is beautiful”
