Grandfathers - Arizona desert night sky painting
When I painted this, my son was just a baby, and I felt sad that he would grow up with no grandfathers, and would have almost no contact with his grandmothers. I thought about the value of having elders in our lives, and how we’re specks of stardust in this vast universe.
Some of the oldest plants on the earth are Saguaros. These cactuses usually grow to be over 150 years old, and their roots run deep. It’s no wonder they have been referred to as grandfathers.

Hi, I'm Steph! I'm an acrylic artist based in Berlin, Germany. These dreamy landscapes come from my memories of growing up in Arizona. I see lots of colors in the desert. At times the sun's glow can seem fluorescent. When I put this on a canvas, it’s more like I paint a feeling, rather than the image itself.
Colors of the art in these photos may be slightly different from how they appear in real life. Sometimes adjustments are needed to make the picture as close to the original as possible.
All paintings come varnished unless otherwise stated.
